2008 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS
CAL PAC CHAMP HOLY NAMES UNIVERSITY TAKES THREE OF TOP HONORS
Oakland, Calif. — Holy Names University senior forward Martha Spivey was named the 2008 California Pacific Conference Player of the Year and Defender of the Year. Menlo College's Leah Manning was selected Newcomer of the Year while Simpson University guard Micha Pringle was named Freshman of the Year. Holy Names head coach Steve Spencer earned Coach of the Year, Commissioner Don Ott announced.
Spivey, from Oakland, Calif., leads the conference in rebounds, averaging 10.7 per game and has earned Cal Pac Player of the Week honors four times this season. The senior has appeared in 27 of Holy Names' 30 games and is averaging 13 points per game. Spivey is currently sixth in the nation in NAIA Division II with 7.56 defensive rebounds per game and eighth with total rebounds per game. Her conference-leading 2.6 blocks per game makes her number twelve in the nation. This is Spivey's second All-Conference honor and her third Defender of the Year honor.
Manning, from Oakland, Calif., has appeared in all 25 games for Menlo this season and has made 11 starts for the Oaks. The junior is tied for tenth in offensive rebounds, pulling down 2.5 per game. She posted a double-double on February 16 with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and was subsequently named Cal Pac Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 11 to 17.
Pringle, from Olympia, Wash., is eleventh in the Cal Pac with 12.6 points per game, sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (.298), and fifth in 3-point field goals made (1.96/game). The freshman leads the Cal Pac with 3.3 steals per game, which makes her number twelve in the nation in Division II.
Spencer earns California Pacific Conference Coach of the Year award after leading the Lady Hakws to a 14-2 conference record. Spencer is in his fourth year at the helm for Holy Names and has compiled a 55-38 record heading into the 2008 California Pacific Conference Tournament.
