Jessup to Host California Pacific Conference Cross Country Championship
Rocklin, CA-William Jessup University will host the California Pacific Conference Cross Country Championship on October 27. The WJU cross country course was completed in the fall of 2006 and is quickly becoming distinguished as one of Northern California's premier running courses. Built entirely "off-road" on WJU's spacious 127-acre campus, the 9-foot wide trails running surface is packed with a 3-inch layer of "Gold Find" Decomposed Granite throughout the entire course. The professionally designed course layout has both a permanent starting line and finishing chute in close proximity. In addition, the WJU Cross Country Facility is "spectator friendly," allowing coaches and fans to easily observe the race in progress. The current course record for the men's 8k is 26:39, run by Miguel Nuci who ran as a unattached runner in 2005. The current course record for the women's 5k is by Ashley Nelson of Fresno Pacific University, who posted a time of 19:31 this fall. The William Jessup University men are currently favored to win and have took first place in each of the Cal-Pac meets run this year. WJU is lead by Joe Kaufman, who finished first in each of his races. The Jessup women's team is picked to finish second behind CSU-East Bay. The Warriors are led by Amanda Gilming who has finished in the top three in each of her Cal-Pac races. Currently there are 79 runners who will race in the Championships with a lunch and awards ceremony to follow.

The William Jessup University women's team took a narrow 27 to 28 point victory over CSU East Bay, with solid early season performances from Sara Kelly, Amanda Gillming, and Carly Verboom, who finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th over the undulating 5k course in times of 21:21, 21:31, and 22:21 respectively.

Rounding out the top five were Jillian Mourier in 8th and Joanne Taylor in 10th.
